Porcelain Beledi Dancers!!!!!

Our full line of all porcelain, china painted, authentically-dressed, and hauntingly beautiful Desert Dancers™   commonly known as Belly or Beledi Dancers - are posed realistically in classical "oriental" or "Middle Eastern" dance steps. They appear to be frozen in time - and, if you listen closely, you can almost hear the musical rhythms from their "zills" (finger-cymbals).

Any desert Sheik would welcome them to his tent to entertain his guests with their ancient dance which pre-dates all other dance forms. Beledi Dancers have performed their dances since the dawn of time - yes, even before the time of the Egyptians. Historically, this dance form was used to celebrate life - from birth to death - and also to provide dowries in preparation for marriage. After marriage, the women would then dance publicly no more but would then dance when they were among their families and when a group of women got together.

Listen! You can almost hear the sound of the Kanoun, the Oud, and the Dumbeg as the dancers are poised ready to spring to life! Hear the zills tinkling like tiny bells? Look over there! Can you not hear the tinkling of tiny zills? Ah, here they come!

Julianna is the epitome of grace and beauty. She is posed in a typical dancer position preparing to do her floor work. She is very "into" herself as she concentrates on gracefully removing her veil and will push it to her side while executing graceful hand movements in tune with the rumba music that is beginning to play. Her face is composed and she is catching her breath before moving into a backbend from this sitting position. Julianna is no longer available - she is sold. If you would like your own belly dancer, please send me an email describing the type of dancer you would like!

Watch for more Desert Dancers™ soon!

Each original figure has hand-painted expressive features and authentic apparel - especially researched and documented. All outfits are fashioned from luxurious fabrics and are decorated with trims and findings in the proper scale. Most standing female figures come with their own "hidden" stands. Other figures may have metal stands - or no stands at all - depending upon their poses. Standing dancers are 5 1/2" inches tall for women....desert chieftains are approximately 6" tall! The dancers may be displayed in miniature tents or room boxes - most dancers display their own likenesses inside of a glass dome where they can be viewed from all sides and protected from the environment!

If you would like your own custom dancer, just send me an email requesting one, giving me specifics of hair, eye and costume and trim colors. Each custom doll is $100.00 plus shipping and handling as detailed below.

All dolls on this page are for sale at their stated prices plus $5.00 shipping and handling within the continental USA. Please add $12.00 postage and handling outside of the continental USA. For ordering information, please see "How to Order."

The dolls on this page are made of porcelain. Men are approximately 6" tall and women are from 5" to 5 3/4" inches tall. Their costumes range from high-quality silks and satins to simple linens or cottons. Some have faux or real fur trim. Metallic trims are made of gold or silver - fabric or metal. Some dolls have silver or gold jewelry fired on. All of the dolls are china painted and have spent many hours of firing time in the kiln.

Custom dolls (to your specifications) are just $100.00 each, plus the usual shipping and handling charges. Just specify the color of eyes, skin, hair, main costume color - and I will create whatever you wish!
